Roll-Up Accessories Case {Tutorial}

*Just a reminder we are giving away a Singer Sewing Prize Pack! Please make sure you enter by Sunday, May 15th at 11:59 EST!
I made this quick and easy project last weekend at my SINGER® Sew Very Easy House Party™. I've scene them around in blog world but have never made one. I was shocked by how easy this really was to make. A great beginner sewing project! I think this would even be a suitable project to teach children with. This project consist of enough fundamental skills for any beginner sewer needs to learn!

Supplies you will need for the project:
2- 12x14 rectangular pieces of fabric
24 inches of ribbon
thread, scissors, pins, invisible marker/chalk stick, ruler, iron and ironing board

With the right sides together cut out the fabric; 12 x 14 inches.

Then pin the two pieces of fabric together (with the two right sides facing each other). On one of the long edges, mark two dots in the center of the side, 4" apart and leave an opening for turning. Mark each corner point 5/8" from each edge for turning. Beginning at one side mark, sew around the rectangle to the other side mark. *Tip-A great way to reinforce the opening for turning the accessory kit right side out is to begin sewing at the fabric raw edge, just above one of the marks. Sew toward the mark. At the mark, put the needle down into the fabric by turning the hand wheel toward you. Raise the presser foot. Turn the fabric. Lower the presser foot and begin sewing the side seam, using a 5/8" seam allowance. Remember as you turn corners you will want to stop sewing, lower the needle into the fabric by turning the hand wheel toward you. Raise the presser foot. Turn the fabric, lower the presser foot, and begin sewing again. Trim the corners diagonally close to the stitching to reduce bulk and create sharp corners.

Turn the accessory case right side out.

Use a point turner and push out the corners to make square corners.

Press project with iron to flatten all seams.

Next you will want to turn the long side with the 4" opening so that it is facing to the left. From the lower edge (the shorter edge) measure up the mark 8" from the bottom. This will create a 4" pocket. (*At this point I top stitched what would be the top of the pocket fold. You don't have to do this but it gives it a much more finished look.) Fold the lower edge up to the mark. Press with your iron and pin in place. Using a fabric marker or chalk stick, mark the center of the pocket and the other lines for the channels to be sewn into pockets. I made my pockets 1-1/2" to 2" wide.

Select a straight or decorative stitch. Starting at the folded edge, stitch along each line to form pockets. *DO NOT stitch either of the ends*

You can stitch only to the top of the pocket or you can sew a line all the way to the top of the accessories case for more interest. If you stop a t the top of the pocket, backstitch/reverse to prevent channel from pulling open.

I choose to sew multiple decorative stitches.

I did 3 different decorative stitches in total.

Once you've sewn the "pockets" you will want to fold a piece of 24inch ribbon in half. Place the crease of the ribbon in the 4"opening just above the pocket. Pin the ribbon in place, and sew around the perimeter of the case.

Fill the case with your favorite accessories whether it be cosmetic brushes, artist tools, sewing supplies, etc. Roll and tie with the ribbon!

Here is what the finished product looks like.

My accessory case all filled up!

Stuffed to the gills and rolled up!
